Hi hi hi!! I love you too!! And I’m so following yours!(:

Lissy Laricchia

Hello, my freaky darlings! I’m terribly sorry about not posting any interviews for awhile—school has completely swept me up in an array of frantic chaos. But I ask for forgiveness and bring you the uniquely, fantastic Canadian photographer named Lissy Laricchia. Her photos always manage to induce fantastical dream-like wonders. So, go ahead read on. I know you want to.

A little about yourself and the place you live: My name is Lissy and I live between a tall forest an old cornfield. I wander between them imagining terribly impossible things, and scribbling in journals about how to make them real.

Type of photographer: I have been told I am a fine art photographer. I’m not quite sure what that means. I love portraiture and really want to move more into fashion.

What inspires you as a photographer: Songs with piano, new stuffed animals, thunderstorms, girls in tutus, the circus, Victorian houses, and a childlike imagination.

Where’s the craziest, coolest, weirdest, most incredible place you’ve shot?: I once shot in this abandoned Church in Illinois. It was in such a lovely state of decay. Half the rooms were flooded, water dripped down the staircases, light shone angelically through the tall windows. Upstairs, spray-painted on one of the walls, someone had written “Question Everything” in black.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done for a photo?: I climbed through a window of an abandoned house in Ontario that I could have sworn meth addicts  were squatting in. Turns out, they weren’t, but for a second there I took the risk!

Do you plan on buying any new equipment, and, if so, what do you have your eyes on?: I always dream of new equipment, never plan! Right now I really want an SB-900 flash for Nikon, but who really knows when that’s going to happen…

How do you decide on locations & subjects?: How much I gasp as I happen upon them.

Hint or tip for other photographers?: Don’t be limited by what you think you can do and what you think you can’t.

Which photographer do you love and why?: Tim Walker. His photos are pure fantasy, but when you look at them, for a moment you believe they’re real.

What are some of your other passions?: Writing childrens books and pretending I know how to draw.

“Every child is born blessed with a vivid imagination. But just as a muscle grows flabby with disuse, so the bright imagination of a child pales in later years if he ceases to exercise it.” - Walt Disney
